Ann C. Macaulay, MD

Ann Macaulay’s interest is in using the principles of participatory research for both community and patient research engagement, where researchers work in partnerships with those affected by issues being studied to create and translate relevant knowledge for action or change. Her 30 year experience includes contributing to the academic understanding and capacity building of this research approach, leading systematic reviews that documented benefits of participatory research with both communities and health organizations, and significant practical experience of undertaking short and long term projects partnering with patients, clinicians, health organizations, policy makers, Indigenous communities, vulnerable populations (including the homeless and women prisoners), and community mobilization for both improved care and the primary prevention of type 2 diabetes in Indigenous communities.
