A national stepped wedge randomized controlled trial of HIV prevention in Botswana
Inter-ministerial National Structural Interventions Trial (INSTRUCT): A national stepped wedge randomized controlled trial of HIV prevention in Botswana
During the period of funding, the project implemented a multipronged structural intervention aimed at reducing HIV infection, particularly among marginalized young women, who bear the brunt of HIV infections in Southern Africa. After an initial one-year pilot in one district, the project implemented the interventions in five districts across Botswana. The interventions included: an evidence-based educational audio-drama about gender violence and HIV, implemented in schools and communities; workshops for marginalized young women to increase their self-esteem and communication skills and put them in touch with government promotive social support programs; and work with government programs to help them to become more accessible for vulnerable young women.
