Access to perinatal care in northern Uganda

Description

Marginalized women contribute to the bulk of maternal mortality and face challenges in accessing perinatal care. The situation is worse in post-conflict settings, where health services are attenuated, and inequitable gender norms are accentuated. This project aimed to test an engagement protocol to improve perinatal care in post-conflict Northern Uganda. The project enabled marginalized pregnant women, their families and their service providers to voice their opinions. Pregnant women and their service providers identified low cost and potentially sustainable solutions to improve perinatal care. Community-led strategies could have an impact that challenges gender norms beyond the health sector.
